The word Rely is derived from an Old French word ‘relier’ which means to ‘bind together’. Rely was born from the binding together of two women, Rena and Shirley, and their legacy embodied by their shared granddaughter, our founder, Tarrynn Deavens. Both women took their destiny in their own hands and didn’t let hardship get in their way.
Rena hailed from Alabama and migrated North to Chicago and ultimately the East St. Louis area to find better economic opportunities and escape the oppression of Jim Crow. Shirley was a New Orleans native that moved to St. Louis to teach school after graduating from Tuskegee University (then Tuskegee Institute).
They both went on to become entrepreneurs and active members in their community, where they could often be found encouraging and supporting others.
When Tarrynn found herself going through a painful life transition she leaned heavily on the lessons she learned from their stories to move forward in peace. Committed to honoring their memory she knew she wanted to dedicate herself to helping others live their lives to the fullest.
The process of coaching will help you see yourself through a new perspective and maximize your potential. What is normal for you is spectacular for your coach. We see a human with infinite possibilities, it’s just a matter of figuring out what you want and we will help you get you there!
We encourage clients to create a new story for themselves that speaks to the person they most desire to be and that is most authentic to them. During the transformation process we utilize traditional coaching techniques, story-telling, somatic practices, narrative crafting, and other creative exercises. Each client’s process will be as unique as they are.
We believe that in order to do anything in life well you have to have an intimate understanding of what your values are. Your values become the foundation upon which a fulfilling life is built. Here are the values that guide our approach:
Contribution: Meaningful work is the guiding principle of Rely. We believe in the work we do and love contributing to the global community one transformed life at a time.
Non-Judgement: This is a judgement-free zone and we are open to helping people from all walks of life.
Harmony: The process of coaching is often compared to a ‘dance’ and we view it as a co-creative process where we flow with clients.
Transparency: We’re honest with our customers and ourselves. If we aren’t the right fit for you, we’ll say so and recommend you to another professional. When mistakes happen, we take responsibility and work to make things right.
Well-being: We encourage our clients to be their happiest, healthiest selves and we practice what we preach. Mental, physical, and emotional health is our top priority.
Innovation: Play, creativity, and expansion will always be encouraged at Rely. We are a playful, lighthearted company and it will show in our coaching services and products. We are constantly retooling and we encourage you to do the same. You are the ultimate innovator for your life.
Community: the original meaning of the word “rely” is to bind together and that is at the core of what we do. Whether in a workshop, group course, or one-on-one coaching relationship our purpose is to bind together with you and grow together.
One More Thing..
There is another guiding force that we didn’t mention in this list because it deserves to stand on its own. That force is love. You will see it mentioned over and over again on this site, on our products, and hear it in our coaching sessions or any other place we can be found.
When referring to love we like to use the bell hooks definition: love is “‘the will to extend one’s self for the the purpose of nurturing one’s own or another’s spiritual growth.’ Love is as love does. Love is an act of will— namely, both an intention and an action.”
Here at Rely it is always our intention to act from a loving place in order to help you grow. We hope that you can feel our love in all that we do.
